Tennova Healthcare - Newport Medical Center Announces Temporary Water Solution Amid Flooding Impact
9/29/2024
NEWPORT, TN – September 29, 2024 – Tennova Healthcare - Newport Medical Center has established a temporary water supply to sustain general plumbing, HVAC, and other critical operations of the hospital until city water is restored. Mobile water tankers will allow continued delivery of safe, quality care to patients following catastrophic flooding in the Pigeon and French Broad Rivers, which resulted in damage to the city's water system. Drinking water supplies have also been secured.
Tennova Healthcare - Newport Medical Center remains available to deliver emergency care at this time, utilizing a backup water supply, and asks that only those needing emergency care seek assistance at this facility at this time. Those needing non-urgent care are asked to go to their next-nearest provider. Elective medical procedures have been canceled for Monday. Physician clinics on the campus will be open for patient appointments during regular hours.
"Our community is facing significant challenges and we are committed to doing our part to assist in keeping medical services available during this difficult time.," said Scott Williams, CEO of Tennova Healthcare - Newport Medical Center. "We are grateful for the dedication of our employees and healthcare providers who are working tirelessly to sustain care. Our local emergency response agency and first responders are also doing heroic work with rescue and safety restoration and we are fortunate to have their support."
The safety and well-being of patients remains the top priority. In addition to patient care, hospital leaders are providing support to members of the staff who have been affected by the flooding.
The hospital and its resources remain dedicated to medical care for patients and residents of the on-site nursing home. The facility is not serving as a community shelter or water supply station. Information will be shared on hospital social media pages as emergency management agencies open shelters and water resource sites for the public.
The hospital will continue to provide updates.
