Tennova General Surgery Welcomes General Surgeon to the Team Serving East Tennessee

Newport, TN (April 10, 2024) Tennova Healthcare - Newport Medical Center welcomes new board-certified general surgeon Darby Pope, M.D., to Tennova General Surgery - Newport. Dr. Pope graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Center in Baltimore, MD, and completed his general surgical internship and residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, and completed his thoracic surgery residency at St. Luke’s Hospital, University of Missouri in Kansas City. He has worked as a general surgeon for 17 years at several hospitals, including Maine General Medical Center in Waterville, ME, Concord Hospital in Concord, NH, and Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, OK.

Dr. Pope is a member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network, the Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, among others. Dr. Pope’s academic appointments include acting as clinical instructor for general surgical clinical rotation for the Kansas State University Physician Assistant program and clinical assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. His work has been published in several industry publications, including Surgical Innovation, Surgical Endoscopy, Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, and Obesity Surgery.
Darby Pope, M.D., is experienced in a range of general surgery procedures and techniques. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery, including advanced laparoscopy and robotics.
